In May 2020, at the onset of the Covid pandemic, Marc Bolh decided it was time to organize an innovation conference and music festival. Why? Marc will explain the inspiration, timing and reasons for creating Synaptic Supercollider. We'll also take a look at why we create things, and what it takes to see a project through in the face of adversity.


3 Principles I’ve Learned Starting and Growing Businesses
Alan Newman is the founder of Seventh Generation, Magic Hat Brewery and Alchemy & Science. In this talk, Alan will share three principles that he has used throughout his career to overcome the challenges of being an entrepreneur. He will give examples of how he applied these principles to re-opening ArtsRiot during the pandemic.


Write your Song
Have you ever wanted to write the next big hit song? Most creatives I know have at one point or another. In this session, singer/songwriter Myra Flynn will compose a song with the participants. We'll choose a genre, chord progression, melody and lyrics. Then it will all comes together, right? Well that's on us.


Controlled Explosion - Building a Rocket Company in Burlington
Benchmark Space Systems is building the propulsion systems powering the small satellite revolution, which is transforming how we operate in outer space. Benchmark Space is a spin-out of the University of Vermont, and co-founder Ryan McDevitt will share the experience of taking the concept out of the lab and turning it into a company with hardware in space.


The Art of Being Stuck
For almost 15 years, Eva Sollberger has made the video series Stuck in Vermont for Seven Days. That has afforded Eva the time and space to document vibrant communities throughout the Green Mountain state and find purpose. Eva will talk about the joys of living in Vermont and navigating a career in the arts.

Burlington Taiko - Japanese Drummers
Taiko is Japanese for "big drum" and it is a relatively modern revival of ancient Japanese drumming traditions. Since 1987, Burlington Taiko has been mesmerizing audiences with the powerful, spellbinding and propulsive sounds of the taiko.



How Design can Impact Culture
Mamava is a business dedicated to transforming the culture of breastfeeding. Sascha Mayer and Christine Dodson, fed up with pumping breastmilk in bathrooms and other borrowed spaces, leveraged decades of design expertise to solve a problem: the lack of lactation spaces in workplaces and public spaces. Christine will explain how Mamava pods are designed to be iconic billboards raising awareness, in addition to being a functional solution for breastfeeding parents.


Building Old Mill Road Media and The Benjamin Lerner "Clean" Campaign
Old Mill Road Media develops, produces, distributes, and promotes content across a wide range of platforms. Articulating this full-service approach can be a challenge, but explaining how Old Mill Road Media has leveraged its assets to build a campaign to de-stigmatize addiction (through words and music) is even more of a struggle. Dr. Joshua Sherman, President of Old Mill Road Media and founder of Old Mill Road Recording, will explain his creative approach to this practical challenge.


The Art & Science of Machine Learning - From Computational Creativity to Killer Apps
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are seemingly enigmatic buzzwords that we're told we should care about, but can't quite seem to pin down. In part this is because AI and ML encompass an enormous variety of tools and ideas. In this talk, Nick will highlight work at the bookends of this spectrum.



The Making of Night Sweats
Andrew Lyman-Clark is a Film Director who grew up in Vermont and currently lives in New York City. He is the producer and director of the film Night Sweats, a techno-thriller about a small town skateboarder who moves to the big city to pursue his dreams, but encounters a nightmare. Andrew will describe the challenges of developing a film including managing creatives and performers and finding financial backers.
